Description
Bald Knob, at 4305 feet, offers a panoramic view of the 3200 foot high Canaan Valley (the highest valley in the eastern United States). While you can hike up to the top from the valley floor, I took a shortcut paying for a $5 dollar chair lift ticket from the Canaan Valley Ski Resort and then made the 1.25 mile hike around Cabin Mountain to Bald Knob. The dreary conditions leftover from Ernesto (tropical storm) continued with very low visibility enshrouding both the valley and surrounding mountains. This picture looks over some of the rock outcroppings along Bald Knob towards the slopes of Canaan Valley Ski Resort.
