Chestnut Ridge is seen rising above the Youghiogheny River and features several gorges carved into its side by fast moving streams rushing down from the heights above. Cold air from the higher elevations flows down the gullies and flood into the valley below, this could be the reason the trees change color in the gullies before the surrounding terrain.
