Description
The bottom slopes of Chestnut Ridge can be seen meeting the Youghiogheny River while sporting plenty of fall color. Here the Youghiogheny River carved a gorge approximately 1200 - 1400 feet in elevation just south of Connellsville, PA. Cold air gushes down ravines carved by streams from the heights above; with temperature changes up to 20 degrees can be common especially during the late evening hours. This may be the reason for the superb autumn color here while Connellsville a few miles down the river was completely lacking in fall foliage.
