Description
A 45 second exposure taken shortly before nightfall showing the Slippery Rock Creek flowing past both the McConnells Gristmill and McConnells Mill Covered Bridge. The 400 foot deep gorge, the creek flows through, is believed to have been carved relatively quickly following the melting of a large glacier to the north that had dammed several bodies of water. In an area with relatively uninteresting topography, McConnells Mill State Park contains some beautiful rock formations and whitewater reminiscent of the Laurel Mountains over fifty miles to its east. The darkness when this picture was taken had the effect of making the creek appear a blue turquoise color, though in the day it is often muddy colored.
