Youghiogheny River Rounding the Flats at Evening

An evening sunshine, penetrating a gully in the gorge rim, illuminates the tip of the Flats between Ohiopyle and Confluence, PA. It was refreshing to emerge from the dark shade of the river gorge and enter one of the last vestiges of sunshine along this segment of the Youghiogheny River Trail. The Flats is an unusually large and low peninsula in the river, surrounded by the heights of Laurel Ridge.
