Window of Tuscarora Sandstone on North Fork Mountain
Peering down, through a gap in the Tuscarora Sandstone columns of rock formations near Chimney Top on North Fork Mountain, to the intense fall foliage slopes of the mountain leading down to the valley along the North Fork River over two thousand feet below. On this October 13, 2009 day the fall foliage was noticeably more vibrant higher on the slopes and gives way to green along the valley floor. Wind was the most difficult hardship when taking this picture, being on the westward top of the mountain entailed being battered constantly by extremely gusty winds while a walk of only yards back from the edge gave way to perfectly calm conditions.
