Red Pine Tree and Cliffs Above North Fork Valley

Red Pine Tree and Cliffs Above North Fork Valley

Looking down from a wall of cliffs running along the western summit of North Fork Mountain past a Red Pine tree towards the North Fork Valley nearly two thousand feet below. Also seen are the bottom slopes of Allegheny Front Mountain. The Red Pine prefers dry soil and North Fork Mountain, said to be the driest mountain in the Allegheny Mountains, has an abundance of them. North Fork is special in hosting a small pocket of Red Pine as it is normally found several hundred miles to the north in southern Canada and the northern Great Lakes.
