Cheat River from Coopers Rock Overlook

Cheat River from Coopers Rock Overlook

A rock formation bigger than a castle stands on the top of Chestnut Ridge and provides a 180 degree view of the surrounding folds of Chestnut Ridge at the Cheat River water gap. In this picture is an eastward looking view of the river far below in a deep shadow cast by the heights of Chestnut Ridge. A muted display of autumn color can be seen in the trees, especially those lit by the evening sun. The overlook is a little over 2000 feet in elevation while the river is 950 feet. The grade down to the river is nearly vertical from this point.
