Turquoise Waters of Indian Creek, Sandstone and Limestone

Turquoise Waters of Indian Creek, Sandstone and Limestone

Turquoise waters of Indian Creek nestled between large slabs of both Sandstone and Limestone rocks just down stream from a series of rapids and waterfalls. This is a near perfect swimming hole hidden deep in the forested hills between Chestnut and Laurel Ridges. Picture was taken about three miles upstream from Indian Creek's confluence with the Youghiogheny River. Indian Creek has carved itself a deep gorge that was extremely treacherous to climb down. I had to bushwhack through a thicket of unrelenting Rhododendron bushes to get to this spot. The enormous rocks lining the creek, some as large as a small house, featured fascinating fossils and even what appeared to be dinosaur footprints (not likely, but convincing). I was only armed only with my 80 to 200 mm lens or else they'd be featured here. July isn't a normal time of year for me to photograph in the afternoon but an unusually overcast day provided a softening of the harsh sunlight.
