Spring Foliage at Laurel Highlands Trail Overlook

Vibrant fresh lime green colored leaves dominate this spring photograph of the Laurel Highlands Trail Overlook near Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania that features the Youghiogheny River making a dramatic turn around a peninsula known as The Flats. The entire complex of mountains surrounding the valley that make up the Youghiogheny River Gorge belong to Laurel Ridge that approaches nearly three thousand feet in elevation here. What appears as a distant mountain top is Sugarloaf Knob that despite appearances is actually three hundred feet lower than the highest point visible from this overlook. While the valley is alive the higher ridge tops remain dormant except in some of the warmer sheltered slopes.
