Sugarloaf Peak, a Granite Monolith, in the Organ Mountains

Sugarloaf Peak is a granite dome shaped like a giant tooth jetting out of the ridge line in the Organ Mountains can be seen in this picture along with other mountain peaks just to its north and a pass known as the narrows. The top of the granite block peaks out at 8150 feet in elevation and resides in the southern portion of the mountain nearly due west of the town of White Sands, New Mexico. Stands of Ponderosa Pine can be seen around the base of Sugarloaf along with plenty of smaller juniper. The green lush appearance of the slopes is in contrast to the arid desert found on either side of this mountain range.
