Pinyon-Juniper Grassland with Chimney Rock
In the upper reaches of the New Mexico's Mesilla Valley the desert gives way to a Pinyon-Juniper Grassland ecosystem that I personally find very appealing. The savanna like landscape is broken by the higher elevations of the Organ Mountains where the pine trees take over. In this picture taken directly from the Bar Canyon Trail can be see a rolling landscape with a igneous rock spear known as Chimney Rock rising from a foothill of the Organs. Alligator Junipers can be seen dotting the landscape along with plenty of yuccas.
