Endless Spruce Fir Forest in Sacramento Mountains

Endless Spruce Fir Forest in Sacramento Mountains

A break in some stormy chilly weather offered me an opportunity to photograph this scene featuring a seemingly endless forest of Spruce-Fir forest in the lush Sacramento Mountains of south central New Mexico near Cloudcroft. This is a part of the Lincoln Nation Forest where Smokey the Bear was developed. The twenty five minute drive to this location from the desert city of Alamogordo features a range of eco-zones packed in a short distance. I experienced thirty degree drop in temperatures at this location from the desert below as the valley was in the mid 80s and sunny and this spot was in the mid 50s with stormy rain showers.
