Tonto National Monument's View of Roosevelt Lake
Photograph looks past a Saguaro Cactus and a slope leading down from the Lower Cliff Dwellings of Tonto National Monument towards Roosevelt Lake and the distant Sierra Anchas Mountain Range near Roosevelt, Arizona. The valley floor, now flooded by the Salt River's water, was once covered by pueblo dwellings that were mysteriously abandoned some 500 years ago. Overhanging cliffs helped preserve some of dwellings that are scattered throughout the mountains surrounding the Salt River.
