Sierra Anchas' Grantham Peak, Carr Mountain, and Parker Canyon
A setting sun's light is cast upon the Sierra Ancha Mountains in this photograph taken from a vista that provides an excellent view of Upper Parker Canyon as it descends around Carr Mountain on the left and rounds below Grantham Peak on the right. Slopes of rocky scree can be seen flowing down the sides of the mountains and red hoodoos stand out below the white rock cliffs on top of Carr Mountain. This scene looks less green now than it did prior to the 2015 Juniper fire that decimated the forest just below the red hoodoos on what is now an exposed slope but plenty of Ponderosa Pines survived and can be seen thriving along Parker Creek. Eight months after this photo was taken I had the experience of hiking up Parker Canyon and got to cross several fields of scree rock as I ascended to the top of the distant most mountain where I got to see the red hoodoos up close. I never tire of visiting these mountains.
