Maverick Peak of the Chiricahua Mountains Dusted in Snow

Maverick Peak of the Chiricahua Mountains Dusted in Snow

A February snowstorm left several inches of snow in the Chiricahua Mountains of Arizona the night before my February 4, 2014 visit to the Chiricahua National Monument. Featured in the upper left is the 7295 foot Maverick Peak with its eastern flank sloping down to the desert floor that was spared any snow accumulation. This mountain range is one of many sky islands in Arizona that feature a variety of plants and animals surrounded by a hot dry desert.
