Tapestry of Autumn Color at Mill Run Reservoir
The thinning fall foliage in the ridge above Mill Run Reservoir still packs plenty of color in this October 16, 2016 picture taken from just below Route 381 and looking west across the waters of the recently dredged reservoir. This valley is heavily populated by maple trees that change color earlier than other species of trees making this area pop with color sooner than the surrounding area. Indian Creek was dammed to produce this water supply for the Westmoreland Municipal Authority. I took this photograph prior to following the Indian Creek Valley Trail where I bushwhacked down a steep gorge to the white water creek that roars with waterfalls all the way to the Youghiogheny River over six miles away from this reservoir.
