Spring in the Laurel Highlands at Ohiopyle
Photo was taken from the High Bridge at Ohiopyle of vibrant spring foliage surrounding the Youghiogheny River with less developed vegetation visible higher up on Laurel Ridge in the background. Ohiopyle State Park was already full of life in the first week of May with plenty of tourists enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Spring greenery surrounding the Youghiogheny River on May 8 as seen from the High Ohiopyle Bridge that serves the Great Allegheny Passage Trail linking Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. I admired the rich tapestry of texture and color in the forest canopy as I listened to roar of the river rapids below. The slopes of Laurel Ridge lacked foliage for the most part and the top of it was still mired in a winter look. The climatic differences between the river and the ridge top is in full display in spring, during snow in winter, and fall.
