Shale Rock below Lower Jonathan Run Falls

Shale Rock below Lower Jonathan Run Falls

A large slab of shale rock is partially inundated with the waters of the fifteen foot tall Lower Jonathan Run Falls in a remote part of Ohiopyle State Park. A harrowing climb down into a steep ravine was required to get this picture from the least accessible of Jonathan Run's three main waterfalls. Fresh fallen autumn leaves blanketed every surface of the ground on this late October day except those cleansed by rushing water.
