Ponderosa Pine Lined Frijoles Canyon with Jemez Mountains

Ponderosa Pine Lined Frijoles Canyon with Jemez Mountains

Photograph taken from the appropriately named Bandelier Camera Overlook and features the Frijoles Canyon covered in Ponderosa Pines that don't seem to have a foothold outside of the valley until you get to the much higher elevations in the background. The canyon is lined with volcanic tuff cliff faces that Indians used to carve dwellings out of and these cliffs can be seen in the center of the photograph. In the distant are the Jemez Mountains including a few large peaks such as Cerro Grande Peak (10,207 feet), and the Pajarito Mountain (9,200 feet). The land between the canyon and the mountains is the Pajarito Plateau. Some snow can be seen in the higher peaks in this late March scene.
