Cox Ranch Shack in a Pinyon-Juniper Grassland
One of the remains of Cox Ranch in the foothills leading up to the towering rock faces of the Organ Mountains can be seen in this picture surrounded by the golden grasses of a Pinyon-Juniper grassland. This picture was taken from the Dripping Springs Trail in the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument just east of Las Cruces, New Mexico. This ecosystem is a transition zone between the desert just below this location and the ponderosa pines that can be found in parts of the Organ Mountains.
